Ugly Beaufort

Ugly is that quality in an object that is offensive to the senses. Source: Merriam-Webster Dictionary.

Ugly Beaufort: This brand-new commercial building on Highway 170 at the entrance to Beaufort is located jam up to a five-lane highway with cars zooming at 55 miles per hour. It is the result of Beaufort’s misguided “Form-Based Code”. Instead requiring a setback from the highway corridor and trees to provide screening, this new Code abolished the tree ordinance that required highway landscaping and substituted a downtown urban aesthetic that is totally inappropriate. The Form-Based Code needs to be radically revised before the landscaped entrances to Beautiful Beaufort are destroyed.
