Corey Fleming, the local Beaufort attorney who was convicted of helping convicted killer Alex Murdaugh to fleece law clients out of millions of dollars, has been sentenced to 20 years in South Carolina state prison. Judge Clifton Newman, who also presided at Murdaugh’s murder trial, issued the sentence on Thursday. “This is, I think the greatest crime for a lawyer in the history of the state of South Carolina,” Judge Newman said.
