With clouds scattered everywhere and the water perfectly still, the first light colored them a deep crimson and later washed out to greys and blues … nice. Coosaw Jack says: When I went out this morning the fog was so thick I figgered this one would be a wasted effort but boy was I wrong. It was dead calm at 36 degrees. As it got lighter there was a slight breeze from the South and the fog began to move Northward. As the fog began to roll out it actually cleared from the South pretty quickly revealing quite a panorama of foggy spots and clear spots … absolutely amazing as it rolled to the far shores. … wow. The air was very clear and the boat landing at Brickyard Point was busy with fishermen launching their boats for a day on the water. A flock of birds (Ibis?) were desperately trying to get into formation but after several attempts, failed miserably … eventually resembling a train wreck … hmmmm. [ read article ... ]

Coosaw Jack says: This morning the smoke was back along with some clouds that hid the Moon for a long time … I finally got a shot of the Moon with Jupiter and a close-up of the Moon, now at about 50% illumination. As the Sun brightened the sky a lone Pelican was fishin’ feverishly … he crashed into the water dozens of times but I only got one good photo since it was still a bit dark. [ read article ... ]

After a couple of ferocious weather days with tons of rain the sky was still fairly overcast but the air was cool (70 degrees) and clear with a brisk breeze … brrrr! Coosaw Jack says: Well, we’ve just about made up our rainfall deficit in about 15 hours!
About 3:00 p.m. yesterday a terrible thunderstorm came in from the Northeast with lots of lightning, thunder and a bunch of rain. I recorded over 2 inches of rain in about 2 hours. One of my 220 volt outlets in my house took a hit and zapped one of my Ham Radio components … luckily the fuses saved it. Lightning struck and I heard a loud pop to my left … yep … I jumped a little. As has been the case for several months, the storms either fizzle out before they reach us or go too far North or South … but late yesterday a storm was pouring rain to our North … and it turned and … voila … we got 2.75” of rain in about an hour. Coosaw Jack says: A small cruise ship that was docked along the seawall at our Downtown Waterfront Park over the weekend lumbered by on it’s way up the ICW to Charleston … neat. The three bodies above the dock the last few days are Mercury, Venus and Jupiter (according to Wonderground Sky) … too cool. Mars is there too but not visible. Coosaw Jack says: Wow … another beauty! It was calm and clear this morning again with temps close to 60 … now we’re talkin’. Venus was bright above Brickyard and the Moon was Waning Gibbous with 97% illumination as it set in the West this morning … notice the darkness beginning from the 2:00 to 6:00 position. Well….what a surprise this morning. After thunderstorms all night there was actually a break in the clouds as the day got brighter. This morning was once again very pretty…the fisherman and oyster gatherer launched their boats and the oyster gatherer’s boat wouldn’t run…so…the fisherman towed him to his oyster beds…cool. Another beauty this morning with warmer temperature (48 degrees) and light breezes. Ralph circled me several times as if to say…”Don’t I know you?”…I saw Hilda yesterday too, so…get with fixin’ up that nest. The oyster gatherer launched his boat at Brickyard but waited there for the tide to fall enough to get to his beds. The Sun coming through the bare trees at Brickyard Point gives interesting effects…it should be back over the water in early April…going toward the Summer Solstice. [ read article ... ]

We had over 0.7″ of rain with a lot of wind last night and there were a bunch of clouds left over this morning. The rain did a great job of knocking down some of the pollen and perhaps some of the sneezing will subside today. The high clouds behind me were lit by the Sun producing a nice glow from the West while the clouds to the East kept the sky gray. This gave the landscape at Brickyard Point a different illumination…too cool. [ read article ... ]

The wind this morning was pretty brisk out of the NNE and the clouds maintained an opening for today’s Sunrise just above the trees at Brickyard Point…nice contrast and colors. This morning was much like a late Summer morning except for the temperature…very strange. There was a very light fog similar to the haze we have here during the Summer. This fog gave the dawn a bronze tone as the Moon faded while setting in the West. When the Sun made it over the horizon and through the trees it was a big red ball very much like it is during the hot & hazy Summer months…nice. [ read article ... ]

With some high clouds this morning I anxiously awaited the colors often associated with these conditions and it looked as if the sky would be full of fire but just before 7:00 a.m. it washed out…oh well. It cleared up late yesterday but according to local weather folks a Low formed offshore overnight and spun clouds back onto the immediate coast…thus another blue-gray Sunrise for us. Beautifully colored high clouds were scattered across the sky this morning and reached a color crescendo about 7:00 a.m. as a few gulls flew around searching for breakfast…very nice. As the Sun rose above the trees it was partially blocked by the thin clouds on the horizon but still made a respectable showing … especially after all the rain we’ve had recently.
