Patrol car, apartment building shot with multiple rounds

On Monday, January 9, several bullet holes and a shattered window were discovered on a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office patrol car parked at Plantation Point Apartments in Bluffton.

According to the sheriff’s department, the patrol car sustained around $2,000 in damages. Along with the patrol car, several bullet holes were also discovered in an apartment building. The sheriff’s department reported that multiple rounds were fired hitting both the patrol car and the apartment building behind the car.

No suspects have been identified at this time.

On Tuesday, October 11, a middle school student brought a toy pistol onto a school bus, and will be disciplined by the school but will not face any criminal charges.

According to Beaufort police reports, Chief Matt Clancy said on Tuesday morning someone reported that a Beaufort Middle School student had a gun on the bus. Officers were sent to meet the bus at the school when it arrived at around 7:20 a.m.

Reports say that police removed the 10-year-old student reported to have the gun. Police located a toy pistol in the student’s backpack. Reportedly the student said he intended to play with the fake pistol at school.

54-year-old Bluffton man charged for inappropriate relationship with 14-year-old girl

On Tuesday, September 27, 2011 the Bluffton Police Department was contacted by a private citizen in reference to an inappropriate relationship between a 54-year-old man and a 14-year-old girl.

Police identified the 54-year-old man as Robert Lee Jenkins.

During the police investigation into this incident, they discovered that Jenkins had sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old girl. This incident occurred at Jenkins residence located at 1 Toy Fields Circle, Bluffton, according to the police investigation.

Robert Lee Jenkins was arrested by investigators on Thursday morning, September 29 and charged with Criminal Sexual Conduct with a Minor–2nd Degree. He was taken to the Beaufort County Detention Center.

The agreement establishes clear guidelines for Fred Trask’s properties within the City limits as well as other properties owned by the Estate of Flora Graham Trask, his mother. George Graham Trask, editor/publisher of The Beaufort Tribune, is a beneficiary of the estate. In the early 1990s George Trask spearheaded annexations into the City of the properties in question and other large tracts including the Marine Corps Air Station and Distant Island. According to an e-mail that has gone viral, some car thieves are now using a hole punch or drill bit to make a small hole under the door handle as seen above to manipulate the lock and gain access to the interior of the car, where they discreetly steal items of value that could go undetected for days. They even re-lock the door when they are through. Some sources say the validity of the email is plausible.

An email that has gone viral is warning motorists to check their cars frequently for any small punctures under their door handles – a barely visible hole in which a crafty thief has used a device to break into the vehicle to steal mostly undetectable but highly valuable items and personal information.
