Leads in the Kingsridge apartment death reported earlier today have resulted in Beaufort police officers going to the Econo Lodge motel on Highway 21, where they located and arrested 42-year-old Thomas Ray Stone this morning.
Stone resided at the same Kingsridge apartment as the victim, according to a press release by Beaufort Chief of Police Matt Clancy mid-morning. The apartment is located at 2304 Pine Court off Ribaut Road. Stone has been charged with voluntary manslaughter and is now residing without bond in the Beaufort county jail.
Initial indications are that the victim, James May, and the suspect, Thomas Ray Stone, were involved in an altercation that became physical. During the altercation the victim received injuries that resulted in his death.
According to the dictionary, in manslaughter there is no intention or pre-plan to kill but death occurs due to a careless or intentional act. There are two types of manslaughter, involuntary when death occurs without intention to cause harm such as when driving carelessly, and voluntary when there is an intention to cause harm but not to kill someone such as when engaging in a fight.
The case is still ongoing and further evidence and information is being gathered.
