Board of Elections offers advice to absentee voters
Avoid use of third party sites
When applying for absentee ballots, voters are advised to avoid third party web sites, such as scabsentee.com, which generate form letters on their behalf for transmission to county election commissions.
Sites such as this are not affiliated with the South Carolina Election Commission and the Beaufort County Election Commission. Voters are cautioned against providing personal information, such as full name and date of birth, through insecure, forms-generating sites. Doing so may increase the risk of identity theft and voter fraud.
In addition, the use of sites such as scabsentee.com do not speed the absentee voting process. It may even delay it, since voter information is being channeled through a third party instead of being communicated directly from the voter to the applicable election commission. Beaufort County voters may request an absentee ballot application by calling (843) 255-6900, by fax at (843) 255-9429, or via email to voter@bcgov.net.

Is anyone else bothered that Vincent Sheheen is being referred to as an immigrant when his family came here generations ago? Haley is a first-generation American and Sheheen is as American as apple pie with a Lebanese heritage. How many of us are are American with our grandparents coming to this country from another country?
I agree. Such hypocrisy has become the norm. Nimrata Rhandwari Haley’s parents came here on a Visit visa and just never left. Her turbin wearing father is said to be a leader in the gathering of Muslim contributions in this region. Sad to see that moral turpitude, criminal activity, lies, adultery, and deceit only apply to democratic candidates.
SCHOOL BOARD – what’s the deal with “demoting” or “canning” good people in the district who have done their jobs and done them well, onyl to re-post the job as an opeing and then hiring someone else for that spot?
You can’t just get rid of someone because you don’t like them if they are indeed doing a good job. Esp in this economy, how can you live with and justify that?
How can you demote and pay a salary and then re-post and re-hire and pay another salary? Or move folks around constantly – that is NOT TEAM building Mr Washington!
I heard recently that there are 63+ certified administrators in this district. Why do we continue to hire more when we have good people here? Do you board members think BSCD employees stink?
MIKE SANZ – Can you be a write in candidate?
Where are the answers to his questions! Voters and taxpayers in the district WANT ANSWERS! ARE there illegalities and discrepancies in the central office?
Boardmembers – you are getting hoodwinked like mad!
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU VOTE! VOTE for the CANDIDATE who has our folks and our kids at heart! None of the current board members have kids in schools here. SO THEY DON”T REALLY GIVE A HOOT as to what is really happening to our teachers and staff. THESE TEACHERS AND STAFF, including MANY WORKERS IN THE DISRICT OFFICE, are those who have direct impact with your children every day. And good people are getting the ax…and the school board members don’t even know it. How gullible and blind they are to the superintendent and her henchwomen! SO VOTE FOR REAL PEOPLE WHO CARE ABOUT EDUCATION – not a POLITICIAN OR GAMEPLAYER whose just in it for the power trip!
There is also the chance that your ballot request will never reach the board of elections, or will reach it too late for a ballot.
Such sites are sometimes associated with political parties who will check the personal information with party registration records. It’s also possible that if you are the wrong party, your request could be delayed or outright discarded and never reach the board of elections. There’s no way of knowing what will happen to your request.
Another red flag is that the page does not have a security certificate, so information sent will be “in the clear” and be readable by third parties on the network you are using. Bank and other sensitive sites use encrypted pages to send and receive personal data.
After information is submitted, a message that “We will get in touch with you shortly.” is issued, so you may expect a call, not from the board of elections, but from someone else.
I was unable to find a privacy policy on the site, so it appears they may use and distribute your information as they see fit with no guarantee of security or privacy. You may end up on phone, email and mailing lists.
As the article indicates, your best course of action is to call the board directly.
