Man and girlfriend arrested on drug and weapons charges on St. Helena Island

An ongoing drug investigation by members of the Beaufort/Jasper Multi-Agency Drug Task Force (DTF) resulted in the Friday, August 6, arrest of two people on St. Helena Island according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department press release.

DTF investigators initiated a drug investigation into Javon M. Govan who was residing at 11 Hackles Drive on St. Helena Island. During the course of the investigation, numerous controlled purchases of cocaine were made from this residence. As a result a search warrant for the residence was obtained.

On Friday, August 6, DTF members along with the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team executed this search warrant. Upon execution of the warrant, investigators met with Govan and his girlfriend, Althea L. Smalls. A small amount of marijuana was located on Smalls, for which she was charged and released. Quantities of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, marijuana, US currency, weapons and drug paraphernalia were located and seized as a result of the search of the residence.
