Police need help identifying suspect in HHI vehicle B&E
Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office investigators are asking the public for assistance in identifying a suspect captured on video surveillance breaking into a car on the northern end of Hilton Head Island.
On Sunday evening, July 18, Sheriff’s deputies responded to Fish Haul Creek Park (230 Beach City Road) in reference to a vehicle break-in. Deputies met with the vehicle’s owner who said that she and her family had arrived at the park at approximately 8:00 p.m. to visit the beach. When they returned to the car less than an hour later, they discovered the driver’s side front window had been broken and a wallet missing.
The park’s surveillance videos revealed that the break-in had been recorded. In the video, a black man wearing all black clothing is seen loitering in the park, then looking through the windows of several cars in the parking lot. He is then seen smashing the window of the victim’s gray 2009 Hyundai Sonata, making entry to the car, and fleeing into a nearby wooded area. No other vehicles were reportedly broken into or damaged.
Investigators are hopeful that someone in the community may recognize the suspect in the surveillance video. Anyone with any information is asked to contact either Investigator Cpl. J. Moran at 843-255-3422 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
