Mike Sanz announces public meeting aimed at Beaufort County School District reform
Mike Sanz, the Beaufort County public school teacher who spoke out for “three pillars of respect, discipline and courage” in a mass email and had his laptop computer seized by school administrators in retaliation, is holding a public meeting aimed at reforming the school district.
Sanz has issued a press release addressed to all parents, teachers, and members of the community inviting them to a public meeting at the Hilton Head Island Public Library, 11 Beach City Road, at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 28.
The announced agenda of the meeting is to organize and brainstorm ideas that will be the foundation for solutions to enhance school culture and academic rigor throughout the Beaufort County School District. The goal will be to present solutions to the Superintendent and the School Board, and to support implementation of these initiatives.

Seems like the district teachers are doing well teaching the kids. Seems like the kids are learning. What is most important is what is really going on in the classroom. That’s what counts. Yea! PASS scores are up and BCSD is improving.
But it is very obvious that BCSD successes are coming from the teachers, not from central office. Truesdale, Rosswurm, and Alford will claim victory, but they have no respect from the staff, no respect from our students & community.
Let’s start to add board members into this lack of respect, because they do nothing, ask nothing, lazy folks they are.
BCSD needs to take a good look at who is running the show, and who really knows & can run the real show of education.
It ain’t those top three now!
Ok Mr. Sanz what do you see accomplished by your meeting?
The turnout was not very good, the district had their people there and you made a list.
I think the employees of the district need to speak out more and tell us the taxpayers what is wrong. I am hearing of the political machine that is Beaufort County Schools. Is that true?
Why are staff members, teachers, administrators so unwilling to take action? I am amazed the superintendent has not made a statement about your movement. Is the issue really lack of leadership at the top?
OK Jon. There IS a lack of leadership. The superintendent pays lip service but she does not care – she does not care if all the schools are in sync, she does not care if programs and services in each building offered in each building are in sync, and she certainly does not care about her employees. The lack of common sense and real effective management in this district is SO obvious. Things are not done well for teachers and kids within the buildings. School staffers fly by the seat of their pants. The superintendent is OUT OF TOUCH and does NOT CARE what really goes on day to day. Call and ask a question for a real decision? You will never get an answer!
Yes, she is wasting YOUR TAX DOLLARS with her rallies, with her special guest speakers, with all the hoopla she surrounds herself with – did anyone ever wonder how much her “pet causes” and initiatives cost?
Those who have spoken up and challenged, those who ask
questions or she thinks are a threat to her “leadership”
have been moved, shipped elsewhere, removed, and replaced with weak closed-door drones who are just riding out a retirement on the sunny coast.
District employees in the schools and central office are afraid to speak out because they have seen their jobs/positions eliminated. Sanz gets away with his shenanigans because he has info/lawsuit that threatens her.
Board members have been told and told but they are weaklings, too much in her closet to admit they’ve screwed up.
Jon – keep asking the questions. Parents, you all need to open your eyes. Start speaking up and asking what is happening at the district level.
Brainstorming: good. Witch hunt and public lynching: bad. I hope that the meeting focuses on solutions to problems, and that it does not become a whinefest or worse, a launching pad for an angry mob of villagers. My credo is that you should not complain until you can contribute a workable solution.
The children are not all pot-smoking, gun-toting psychopaths in need of correction, there are some amazing teachers with spotless credentials, and I believe that most of the policies and procedures are working. I believe the most important thing that should come from this meeting is improving on existing policies and standards, not re-making the school system.
Is Mr. Sanz qualified to lead such a meeting and to spearhead such an effort? I don’t know, but I believe that he should present his credentials at the very beginning of the meeting so that all in attendance may decide for themselves on the question of his credibility.
Why don’t you start by suggesting to get rid of the superintendent and “inhuman” resources director?
