Northern Implementation Committee meeting and public meet & greet
Residents interested in Beaufort County’s consideration of a multi-jurisdictional, form-based planning code may want to attend an informal “meet and greet” Monday, July 19, with consultant Stefan Pellegrini of Opticos Design, Inc.
The gathering is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. in the hallway outside the chambers of Beaufort County Council, County Administration Building, 100 Ribaut Road, Beaufort. It will be followed at 9:30 a.m. by the regular meeting of the Northern Beaufort County Implementation Committee where the consultant has scheduled a presentation on the County’s progress regarding implementation of the form-based code.
Unlike conventional zoning, which relies on land use as the primary organizing principle, a form-based code emphasizes physical form. It addresses the relationship between building facades and the street as well as the form and mass of buildings in relation to one another and the scale and types of streets and blocks. It is intended to reduce sprawl, which is believed to have a harmful impact on the environment.
