Reader hopes Democrat pollsters & advisers continue to misread electorate
Thank you for sharing the column by Pat Caddell on the recent South Carolina primary elections. Unfortunately, he misses the mark widely on the three elections he focused on.
First, Tim Scott’s election was really no huge surprise to those who follow the politics of the First District. He is an enormously popular Charleston County Councilman and State Representative, who has built up his base of support in Charleston over 15 years of elective office. And, in the First Congressional District, the votes are in Charleston.
Second, Nikki Haley did come out of nowhere -3rd place – in the polls, but only after a widely publicized endorsement by Sarah Palin – a fact that Caddell does not even mention as he once again gratuitously slams Palin’s qualifications.
Third, he characterizes the Democrat Senate Primary results as the result of an informed electorate going against the establishment candidate. Give me a break!
Otherwise, I enjoyed the column. Let’s hope more Democrat pollsters and advisers keep misreading the electorate. They will have plenty to explain when they are “surprised” by the election results in November.
