Man robs Hilton Head Island bank at gunpoint
Beaufort County Sheriff’s deputies are on the scene of an alleged armed robbery reported at a north end bank Monday, June 21. The surveillance photos are of what is believed to be the getaway vehicle used in the armed robbery.
The vehicle of interest is the silver 4-door sedan with a sunroof and a black car “bra” on the front seen in the photos.
Just before 10:30 a.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a robbery occurring at First Citizens Bank located at 2 Northridge Drive moments before. Upon arrival, tellers said that an unknown man armed with a handgun had just robbed the bank and fled the area on foot.
The suspect was described as black male, approximately 5’09”, 160-170 lbs, wearing all black clothing, a ski mask, and gloves. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled the area on foot, last seen headed towards Palmetto Parkway. No injuries were reported during the incident.
A perimeter was established surrounding the area, and the Sheriff’s Office K9 Tracking Team responded to assist in the search for the fleeing suspect. Evidence was located and recovered in the area by K9 handlers; however, no contact was made with any possible suspect(s). As a result of police activity, traffic was temporarily delayed on westbound US 278 from Mathews Drive through the Hilton Head Island bridges.
The investigation will be continued by the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with any information this incident or the pictured vehicle to contact either Investigator Sgt. T. Calhoun at 843-255-3412 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777. Caution should be exercised should contact with this vehicle and its occupant(s) be made as a handgun was presented during the bank robbery.
