Riverview School’s head quits, second in six months
Riverview Charter School’s new principal, Wendy Randle, who is called the director of the school, has quit after three weeks on the job. She is the second director of Riverview to depart in the past six months.
Randle reported to work on May 17 following her hiring by the Riverboard board on April 21. She delivered her letter of resignation June 11, two days after the end of the current academic year, citing “personal reasons” for resigning. She stated to the board that her reasons were private and that she did not want to be contacted by board members or the press now or in the future, according to Mary Foster, Riverview’s communications chair.

Eleanore Bednarsh
Randle came to the job with glowing expectations following the departure of Riverview’s first director, Eleanore Bednarsh, who was fired without severance pay January 4 for performance failure. There is now a lawsuit pending between Bednarsh and Riverview over that situation.
According to the statement Wendy Randle made to the press when she was hired April 21 to replace Bednarsh, “I am truly honored to lead this dynamic school,” said Randle. “The mission and philosophy of Riverview capture all of my beliefs about education. The faculty and stakeholders of Riverview are deeply committed to educating the whole child to ensure each student receives the individualized instruction which is ultimately conducive to success.”
Randle has a Master’s Degree in School Administration. Most recently, she had been the principal of a similarly sized elementary school in Somerset, Massachusetts. She moved to Beaufort in anticipation of her husband, Derrick Randle, Sr., relocating to a job at the US Naval Hospital.
Foster said to The Beaufort Tribune today that “It’s a blow and a shock, but we are moving forward. While we recognize this represents yet another transition for this young school, we are pleased to announce that Dr. Eileen Williams has agreed to return as our director assisted by Jim Crawford, another veteran educator. Together Eileen and Jim have more than 70 years of experience as educational leaders.”
Riverview is the first and only charter school in Beaufort county. It opened in August 2009 and serves students in kindergarten through fifth grades. The school will add sixth grade for the 2010-2011 school year and seventh and eighth grades the following two years respectively.

Wonder if this is indicative of some sort of systemic problem at the school?
