    Beaufort County’s Risk Management & Safety Officer charged: criminal sexual conduct

    Jan Kenneth Watts, 51, Beaufort County’s Risk Management and Safety Officer, was arrested and jailed early Thursday morning, June 10, on a charge of Criminal Sexual Conduct With Intent To Commit, according to the Beaufort County Detention Center.

    Watts has been in charge of the county’s workers’ compensation claims, drivers’ training for employees using county vehicles, and on-the-job safety training, according to the Public Information Officer.

    Watts was arrested and booked into the jail at 5:00 a.m. Bond was set at $50,000. He was released on his own recognizance later in the day.

    According to an assistant to County Administrator Gary Kubic, Watts is no longer an employee of the county, effective after his arrest. The Beaufort Tribune was unable to determine whether he quit or was fired.
