Riverview Charter School announces lottery results, meet and exceed OCR goals
Riverview lottery results meet and exceed OCR goals
The results of the government-mandated student lottery at Riverview Charter School, conducted Thursday, May 20, show that the school has met and exceeded the racial goals set by the U.S. Office for Civil Rights (OCR).
Almost 400 students applied for just over 70 empty seats. According to a Riverview press release, the school has met this year’s OCR goal for White student enrollment and has exceeded this year’s goal for African-American enrollment.
The goal for this year’s enrollment, based on the amended OCR agreement dated May 10, 2010, is defined as 68.7% White and 10.5% African-American.
Riverview’s student enrollment for 2010-2011 school year, as currently constituted as a result of the May 20th lottery along with current re-enrollment data, is 68.7% White and 15.7% African-American.
Additionally, the total applicant pool for Kindergarten was 68.18% White and the new rising Kindergarten class, as currently constituted as a result of the lottery, is 59.87% White. This was the grade level with the majority of the empty seats that were available, and they were made available at a greater rate to African-Americans.
Dr. Jackie Rosswurm represented the Beaufort County School District and assisted the Riverview Board of Directors with the lottery.
