Riverview Charter School president elected to statewide board

Riverview Charter School announced this past weekend that Alison Thomas, current president of Riverview’s board of directors, has been elected to the South Carolina Association of Public Charter Schools (SCAPCS) board of directors.

SCAPCS’ mission is to advance innovation and excellence in South Carolina’s public education through the development and support of public charter schools. More than two thirds of South Carolina’s charter schools are members of SCAPCS as it enters 10th year of operations.

Says Ms. Thomas, “I look forward to being a strong advocate on behalf of all charter schools by working with our state’s leaders to refine and enhance our charter school legislation. Using the insight of Riverview’s successes and challenges in establishing itself as Beaufort County’s first charter, I welcome the opportunity to “pay forward” our history in hopes that it might prove valuable in informing the actions and future successes of others.”

Since SCAPCS’ inception in 2001, a dedicated group of staff members, volunteers, and member schools have worked for significant legislative change to benefit South Carolina’s charter public schools and to develop resources and supports for South Carolina’s charter schools. SCAPCS’ strategic plans call for developing critical resources and powerful new ways to advocate for public charter schools in South Carolina.
