Visitor & Convention Bureau sets objectives for 2010-2011

The Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce Visitor & Convention Bureau (VCB) conducted its annual board of directors retreat at Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort on April 13. The purpose of the retreat was to establish leadership direction and objectives for the tourism industry and VCB staff.

VCB Chairman Randall Burch stated, “The key objectives and strategic direction that resulted from the board of directors’ first retreat will set the vision and benchmark to grow tourism to benefit businesses and residents in our community.”

Key strategic issues and objectives identified at the VCB retreat are as follows:

    * Develop resources to help stabilize and increase the area’s economy
    * Increase the number of annual leisure travel visitors
    * Increase group visitation among key target audiences
    * Extend visitor length of stay to increase average daily expenditures
    * Utilize research to establish core customers and baseline measurements
    * Build community awareness of tourism’s economic importance to the region
    * Influence product development consistent with VCB’s brand

Chairman Burch also announced three new board members were appointed who will further increase the VCB board’s leadership and representation of area businesses:

Edward Dukes – Lowcountry Real Estate
Bernie Moscovitz – The Alternative Board
Lantz Price – Saltus River Grill, Plum’s Restaurant and Bistro Patois

The VCB retreat follows the Beaufort Regional Chamber’s board of directors retreat, held March 23, at which the top priority identified for 2010-2011 was to increase the tourism industry.

The Beaufort Regional Chamber of Commerce Visitor and Convention Bureau is the Designated Marketing Organization (DMO) for the city of Beaufort, the town of Port Royal and the Sea Island regions of northern Beaufort County. The VCB partners with a wide variety of private and public organizations, businesses and government to market the lodging and hospitality industries to increase the area’s economic development and improve the quality of life for its residents.
