CC Haigh Boat Landing to open Memorial Day weekend
In response to boater’s complaints for an improved boat landing, Beaufort County will begin renovation of the CC Haigh Boat Landing Monday, March 22 lasting through Friday, May 28.
At the insistence of Beaufort County Council Chairman Weston Newton, the upgrades will be complete by Memorial Day weekend. Work had originally been scheduled through the summer, but that changed following Newton’s objections. “This is one of our most popular boat landings in southern Beaufort County. It is unacceptable to residents and visitors to stretch this out through the warmer months.”
The $275,555 improvements are being made by Alpha Construction Company of Savannah. They include changes to the grades and length of the ramp and a new boater’s courtesy dock. Repairs to the fixed pier at the Haigh Landing have been completed and the pier is open to the public.
Three alternative landings are available for boaters in southern Beaufort County. They include the Buckingham Landing at the end of Fording Island Road Extension, the H.E. Trask, Sr. Landing at the end of Sawmill Creek Road and the Broad Creek Landing at 68 Helmsman Way. Security measures at the worksite and alternative landings will be increased.
