March 20: First day of spring in the South Carolina Sea Islands
A Bradford pear tree covered with spring blooms, abuzz with honey bees laden with pollen, proves that spring is finally here in our beautiful South Carolina Sea Islands, a month later than usual, but here just the same.
As it happens, today, March 20, is the official first day of spring on the calendar. Usually Valentine’s Day, February 14, sees the warm weather arrive here, but not this year. It’s been cold and rainy all the way through winter until now it’s spring, thank goodness.
