Yemassee Town Council approves train station agreements
The Yemassee Town Council, at its March 9, 2010 meeting, unanimously approved two key documents that will turn the town’s goal of owning the Amtrak station into reality.
The Mayor and Council approved a purchase sales agreement that will be executed with CSX Transportation Inc. and a lease agreement that will be executed with Amtrak. Yemassee Mayor J.L. Goodwin said that this has been a dream for the Town for many years. “Today’s a good day for the Town,” Mayor Goodwin stated.
He thanked the Yemassee Revitalization Corporation, a local 501c3 non-profit community revitalization organization, for their efforts in working to make this happen. Goodwin also thanked CSX and Amtrak for their willingness and assistance in working through the deal. “It’s a very slow process, but we patiently worked through it. We’ve established great partnerships with both Amtrak and CSX. Their people are top-notch.”
The ownership of the depot building and the adjoining parking lot property is expected to transfer in June 2010.
