March 21: Sea Island Chamber Singers present concert
On Sunday, March 21, at 7:00 p.m., the Sea Island Chamber Singers will present a concert at Sea Island Presbyterian Church, 81 Lady’s Island Drive, Beaufort.
The group consists of 26 singers, all of whom have been auditioned. It is a mixture of members of the Sea Island Church Choir and other area Church choirs. Charles D. Frost is the Director and organizer of the group. This is the second season for the group. Last year the group sang Mozart’s “Coronation Mass” with the Kirk Choir from the church. This will be the group’s first solo performance.
Frost states that he started the group because “I saw a need in our community for a group devoted to singing who would be grouped together to form a good blend. Also, I wanted singers who could be challenged musically. In most church choirs, you do not always have the luxury of selecting your singers. Nor should you. Volunteers are important. I love my volunteer choir.
Frost is the Minister of Music at Sea Island Presbyterian where he directs several choirs, plays the organ, oversees a volunteer staff, and administrates a series of concerts and music programs.
The program will include works by Clausen, Larkin, Byrd, Haydn, Graun, Gjeilo, Durufle, and Handel. Members of the Charleston Symphony who will also perform Mozart’s String Quartet in C Major will join the Singers. They will also join Mr. Frost to perform several Church Sonatas for organ and strings by Mozart.
A freewill offering will be accepted. Call the church for more details at 843-525-0696.
