Friday, March 5, 2010: Free organ concert, Rebecca Davy at Parish Church of St. Helena, Beaufort
The spring series of free organ concerts at the historic Parish Church of St. Helena in downtown Beaufort continues Friday, March 5, at noon with Rebecca Davy at the organ.
Rebecca Davy is a native of the state of Washington, where she completed her bachelor of music degree in organ performance at the University of Puget Sound. A recent transplant from Southern California, Rebecca earned two masters degrees from the University of Southern California in organ performance and music history. She completed additional theory and history studies, concentrating on early 20th-century music.
She began playing the organ at age 10 and was playing for services in her home church by age 11. Since then she has served a number of churches and a synagogue and is currently the full-time associate organist and choir director at Bruton Parish Church in historic Williamsburg, Virginia.
Rebecca has performed in England and Germany and has concertized widely on the West coast. She now plays more than forty organ and harpsichord candlelight concerts at Bruton Parish each year, and she enjoys numerous additional solo, choral, and orchestral engagements in the local community and beyond.
The organ concerts at St. Helena have become known far and wide for attracting musical artists of the highest quality. They include four concerts each fall and four each spring. The Rebecca Davy performance is the second of the four in the spring 2010 series. The remaining concerts this spring will be held on March 19 and April 9.
