Beaufort Gazette joins chorus of objectors to City’s massive downtown rezoning proposal

The Beaufort Gazette, the daily printed newspaper serving the Beaufort area, today, January 17, joined a chorus of objectors to the City of Beaufort’s plan to engage in a massive rezoning of the downtown waterfront area from Conservation Preservation to Core Commercial. In a strongly worded editorial titled “Beaufort must slow redevelopment project”, the Gazette called on the City to “delay rezoning until the developers have offered their plans and the public knows what rezoning is likely to bring.”

The Gazette also carried at the top of its front page today a news article by Erin Moody reporting on the grass-roots effort of local citizens to slow down or halt the City’s plans.
