Letter to editor: Beaufort County steals personal liberty

Reader says Beaufort County steals personal liberty

    Dear Editor,

On three separate occasions an officer of the Beaufort County codes enforcement department has visited my office threatening fines of $1200 a day. Her claim is that the five employees that I have hired to stand on the public sidewalk in costume and wave at oncoming traffic are not humans at all but instead they are moving signs in violation of the Beaufort County codes.

You would think that in a state with almost 12% unemployment the County would be happy that I have just hired 20 people to perform honest work for a good pay. Many of the young women are hard working students at local colleges who appreciate making a little money to help pay for school. I would hate to have to tell them they aren’t needed.

Say goodbye to personal liberty, that’s what Beaufort County is achieving.
