Bank near Sun City Hilton Head robbed at gunpoint

    Armed robbery at bank near Sun City Hilton Head

    3-1Coastal States Bank located at 30 William Pope Drive near Sun City Hilton Head in southern Beaufort county was robbed at gunpoint early Tuesday morning by a man wearing a black ski mask, according to a report by the Beaufort County sheriff’s office. The man, armed with an unknown weapon, demanded money and was given an undisclosed amount of cash. The robbery was recorded by security cameras, a photograph from one accompanying this article.

    At approximately 7:30 am, sheriff’s deputies responded to a reported armed robbery of the Coastal States Bank office. Upon arrival, deputies met with three employees who said the bank had been robbed by an armed suspect, the report said.

    The victims described the suspect as a white male, approximately 5’08”, 160 lbs, wearing a black ski mask, a dark colored fishing-style hat, a dark blue or black jacket with a Hargray patch on the left breast and left sleeve, and khaki pants.

    The suspect fled the area in an unknown direction, leaving the victims unharmed.

    Because robbing a bank is a Federal crime, the investigation will be assumed by the FBI with the assistance of sheriff’s office investigators. Anyone with any information is asked to contact FBI Agent Don DeMay at (803) 551-4200 or the Beaufort County dispatch center at (843) 524-2777.
