Neighborhood clean-up day in Old Commons

Neighborhood clean-up day in Old Commons

A neighborhood clean-up day will be held in the Old Commons Saturday, November 14, 9 a.m.–1 p.m. in conjunction with an initiative by the City of Beaufort to address excessive trash, clutter, fire hazards and overgrown lots city-wide. Other neighborhoods are also scheduling similar clean-ups through their neighborhood associations.

The Old Commons, in the heart of downtown Beaufort, is bounded by Charles, Boundary, Carteret and Craven streets. Businesses, residents and property owners within those boundaries are asked to participate.

    • Yard debris, unusable yard furniture, white goods (appliances, old television sets, etc;), recyclables and garbage of all kinds can be placed on the curb for pick-up through the city’s contract with Waste-Pro.
    • Batteries, tires, electronics, paint and power tools should be segregated from other debris.
    • Paint should be solidified by adding sand, dirt or kitty litter and removing the lids.
    • Power tools should be drained of fluids.
    • Owners of vacant lots can schedule a future one-time mowing through the city once tree limbs, construction debris and trash is removed from the lots.

There is no charge for the services. Residents who are unable to lift heavy objects may arrange for help by calling 843-597-5600 or 843-476-9510 by Friday, November 13.
