Hilton Head store robbed at gunpoint

The Beaufort County sheriff’s office is investigating an armed robbery that reportedly occurred at a Mathews Drive store on Hilton Head Island Tuesday night.

According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived at the Latinos Store located at 119 Mathews Drive just after 9:15 p.m. in response to a reported armed robbery occurring moments before. Upon arrival, deputies met with the store’s owner who said he had been robbed at gunpoint by two unknown men.

The owner said the two individuals, one of whom was armed with a handgun, entered the store and ordered him to lie on the ground. One suspect stole an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register, while the second suspect stole the owner’s wallet, according to the press release.

Both suspects then exited the store and were seen fleeing the area in a vehicle of unknown make or model. The store owner was left unharmed, and no customers or other employees were in the store at the time of the attack.

One suspect was described as a clean-shaven black male between the ages of 25-30, approximately 6’ 00”, 140 lbs, wearing a black doo-rag on his head and a black jacket. The second suspect was described as a black male between the ages of 30-35, approximately 6’ 01”, 140 lbs, wearing a baseball hat and a black jacket. The report said he had a thin “chin-strap” style beard.

The sheriff’s office is asking anyone with information to contact either Investigator Sgt L. Albertin at 843-842-4111 ext 279 or the Beaufort County Dispatch Center at 843-524-2777.
