Hunting Island 150th anniversary lighthouse celebration features 5K run & walk
Friends of Hunting Island is sponsoring a 5K run and walk on Sunday, October 18, at Hunting Island State Park. The event will begin at 1:00 p.m., October 18, with start and finish at the Hunting Island nature center near the Fripp Island Bridge at the south end of the park .
This will be a fun run with chip timing on wide shell & sand resurfaced trails along the Hunting Island lagoon and through the beautiful, shady maritime forest.
Entry fee to participate in the run/walk is $25 for the run and $15 for the walk. T-shirts will be awarded to the first 300 entrants. Stay for the celebration and an oyster roast afterwards at the famous Hunting Island lighthouse.
Admission to the park will be free Saturday and Sunday. Kayak races and sand sculpture are planned for Saturday with many other scheduled events for the weekend to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the lighthouse.
