Shrimp Festival starts Friday
The 15th annual Beaufort Shrimp Festival, under the auspices of Main Street Beaufort USA this year, starts 6:00 p.m. Friday at Beaufort’s downtown waterfront park. The festival will continue Saturday with numerous daytime events. Admission is free.
Friday the gates open at 6:00 p.m. Six restaurants will be previewing their dishes for the restaurant competition on Saturday. Come with an empty stomach to enjoy the food, then dance the night away with Deas-Guyz.
Saturday the events continue from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Here is the Saturday schedule:
- 8:00 5K run (entry fee)
- 8:00 Walk through history (entry fee)
- 8:45 Popcorn shrimp run
- 10:30 Adopt A Shrimp race sponsored by Sea Island Rotary Club (entry fee). This is an opportunity to win $100,000.
- 11:00-5:00 Craft market hosted by South Carolina Shrimpers’ Association
- 11:00 Restaurant booths and childrens’ area open
- 11:00-12:30 Judges tasting, entertainment by Bret Mosley
- 12:30 Winners of shrimp race announced
- 1:00-2:30 Entertainment by Chocolate Thunder
- 2:30-3:00 Adult shrimp heading & kids peeling contests; announcement of restaurant winners and presentation of People’s Choice and Silver Cup Award
- 3:15-5:00 The Burnin Smyrnans
Tickets for food and drinks are $1.00 each with multiple tickets required for most food and beverage items.
