Letter to editor: What about the public schools?

Reader wants more news about public schools

Beaufort Academy is a private school with good people. But what about the public schools?

I am new to reading The Beaufort Tribune. I think it is great. But, I have seen nothing about Beaufort High or Battery Creek. What was the score for the Beaufort High football game Friday night?

There are a lot of people who cannot afford to send their children to a private school. We like your paper and think it is a great idea. Please give Beaufort High and other public schools as much attention as Beaufort Academy.

    Editor’s comment:

The Beaufort Tribune has been in business as a commercial online newspaper supported solely by advertising dollars for five months. During that time we have carried 51 articles about the public schools, 10 articles about Beaufort Academy, and three articles about church schools.

Beaufort Academy got in touch with us during the summer and said they wanted to send us news. They also said they wanted to pay for advertising about their school so that they can get more students and more good will for their school. They are paying for a special section in the Tribune devoted exclusively to news articles about Beaufort Academy.

We have suggested to people in the public school system a similar arrangement, but so far that has not happened. If any of our readers know of people who will furnish us with school news on a continuing basis, then we hope you will send them our way. We depend on citizen volunteers to send us the news we print in The Beaufort Tribune about community events.

We also hope you will send us people, businesses and institutions that need to advertise, such as the public school system which already advertises extensively in other places.

Meanwhile, we will continue to do our best to carry news about the public schools.
