The Beaufort Tribune viewed quarter million times in first four months

The Beaufort Tribune anticipates 1,000,000 page views in 2010

At exactly 6:05 a.m. today, August 27, 2009, The Beaufort Tribune surpassed a quarter-million pages viewed by our readers since we became a commercial online newspaper four months ago.

“I can hardly believe it,” editor/publisher George Trask declared when he realized early this morning that the pages of his creation, The Beaufort Tribune, have already been seen more than 250,000 times over the Internet all over the world in just four months. “At this rate we will reach 1,000,000 views in 2010. ”

“This goes beyond my imagination,” Trask said. “I never anticipated that The Beaufort Tribune would become so popular so fast. This means not only that our readers like us, but also that our advertisers can reach an audience far greater than we promised. They can advertise with us in our online daily hometown local and reach thousands upon thousands of people.”

The Beaufort Tribune has published almost 700 news and feature articles and readership has been steadily climbing since Trask opened the daily online commercial version of the Tribune on April 10. “Starting at a level of about 100 page views that day, the paper skyrocketed to national and international readership ten days later when we became the first to report the news of the violent assault on a young woman, Rhyan Mazur, in her downtown Beaufort hotel room on her wedding day. On that day readership shot up to almost 9,000 page views, the paper’s daily  record so far.”

“We are gaining new subscribers every day,” Trask declared. “We are going in the direction of reaching 1,000 subscribers after only four months,” he said. “Our subscribers are our most loyal readers. They get an automatic update by email early every morning. Subscriptions to our paper are free and can be ordered from a link at the top of our front page.”

The Beaufort Tribune is owned by Hometown Local Media, Inc., an enterprise founded by Trask this spring. The company plans a family of hometown local newspapers with The Beaufort Tribune being the prototype to prove the concept. The paper has pioneered the display of large advertisements and one-line “Quick Ads” on its front page with complete flexibility to display ads of any size anywhere including in special feature sections devoted to a single advertiser.

“We are totally dependent on advertising revenue to bring our newspaper free to the world,” Trask said. “Our competitors are selling links. We are selling ads, big ones just like advertisers had when they were dependent on the print media. Online is the new way, and we are leading the way.”

“In just four short months we have already proved this works,” Trask said. “We are the wave of the future in newspaper publishing. We intend to go forward with more papers, and we are already talking with folks as far away as California about becoming part of our family of online daily hometown local newspapers.”
