Highway lane closures start today in preparation for bridge construction
One-lane traffic to McTeer Bridge starting today

Orange cones, heavy equipment and surveyors dot the landscape along Lady’s Island Drive (Highway 802) from Ribaut Road to Sea Island Parkway (Highway 21). Motorists are cautioned to be prepared for some delays in their commutes across McTeer Bridge today and tomorrow.”
Sanders Bros. Construction will close one lane of SC 802 in the Town of Port Royal from River Wind Drive to the McTeer Bridge today.
Tomorrow the contractors will close one lane of SC 802 on the Lady’s Island side of the McTeer Bridge at the foot of the bridge to Island Causeway Road. All lanes are expected to be re-opened to traffic Friday.
The lane closures are due to the construction of temporary concrete barriers prior to the building of a new bridge span parallel to the McTeer Bridge. The span is one of ten road improvement projects in Beaufort county selected for funding by a voter-approved 1% sales tax. It is part of a $39.9 million project that includes widening Highway 802 from US 21 on Lady’s Island to Ribaut Road across the Beaufort River via the McTeer Bridge.
