An Estill teenager took Hampton County sheriff’s deputies on two separate chases at 100 miles an hour Tuesday and Wednesday. The youth was finally apprehended by deputies of the Chatham County sheriff’s office in Georgia on Wednesday after a third chase. During the high-speed spree the youth wrecked a car and an 18-wheeler.
The 16-year-old fled deputies in Hampton County around 8:15 a.m. Tuesday morning on highway 278, heading towards Jasper County at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. Deputies gave chase, but were unable to keep up with the juvenile and called the chase off around 8:25 a.m. when they lost sight of the vehicle.
The juvenile was driving a stolen green Honda Accord registered to a Hilton Head man, according to a press release from the Hampton County sheriff’s office.
The juvenile was then involved in a second chase with deputies in Hampton County around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday morning when officers spotted the vehicle near Estill.
Deputies attempted to stop the juvenile as he once again attempted to flee the area. The chase, at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour, sent deputies through Estill down highway 321 into Garnett and into Jasper County.
Deputies continued to give chase through Tarboro and into Hardeeville before Hampton deputies ended their chase for the juvenile at the Georgia line. The juvenile then continued with officers from Port Wentworth, Georgia, in pursuit before the juvenile wrecked the vehicle into a pond and fled on foot.
The deputies in the sheriff’s office of Chatham County, Georgia, were able to apprehend the juvenile later Wednesday after the juvenile had allegedly stolen an 18-wheeler and wrecked it.
The juvenile is currently in the custody of the Chatham County sheriff’s office.
