Letter to editor: Let’s not start busing students again
Reader says Riverview racial decision opens “can of worms”
Unfortunately, the issue regarding Riverview Charter School has opened up a “can of worms” for Beaufort County with regard to racial percentages per school.
Certainly, Ms. Truesdale will come to the logical conclusion that trying to redistribute students equally throughout the county schools based on race would be a nightmare at best. Let’s hope that level heads prevail.
It is unfortunate that such requirements were made for Riverview, and I do not agree that they should be unfairly penalized. However, existing schools should not be “turned upside down” because of this.
Children should be allowed to attend the school closest to them and part of their immediate community. Busing children all over the county sounds like a bad idea to me. And, can you imagine all of the teenagers who drive themselves to school trying to get to Battery Creek by 7:40 a.m.?
This is not a logical choice on many levels.
