Residents of the city of Phoenix, Arizona, woke up recently to discover that their city fathers had transferred a city park for development purposes. Sounds eerily like what’s happening in beautiful Beaufort by the sea. Click here for the news article.
A groundswell of support for preserving Beaufort’s downtown waterfront parking lot as open space has emerged in the face of City Council’s current effort to transfer the land to a Greenville commmercial development company. Click here for the latest citizens’ effort at city council hearing on this past Tuesday, April 8.
Beaufort’s Metropolitan Planning Commission, composed of five members, unanimously disapproved the City’s massive downtown rezoning proposal at its monthly meeting on Monday, January 13, 2014.
